Youth Investigations
The Youth Investigations unit is part of the Criminal Investigations Division and consists of detectives who work on all youth-related matters. Detectives and Officers in this division are trained in areas such as Juvenile Law, and a myriad of other programs.
Youth Investigations is responsible for managing juvenile records; providing investigative support for missing/found person cases; investigating child abuse cases; coordinating and monitoring social service resources to juveniles and their families; maintaining delinquency prevention programs; and identifying and facilitating the correction of conditions conducive to delinquency. The unit is responsible for making referrals to the appropriate outside agencies, which provide services in family and individual youth counseling and crisis intervention. The cases that the Youth Investigation unit receives are generated through police officers’ every day contacts / arrests, juvenile court, probation department, social agencies, self-referrals, school and parental contacts.
The Youth Investigations unit oversees the Berwyn Police Explorers Post #94 program. Select detectives from this unit are also specially trained School Resource Officers that serve all three school districts in Berwyn.
