On June 15, a Berwyn mother discovered that her 5-year-old son’s adaptive tricycle had been stolen from their backyard. The child has special needs and depends on the therapeutic tricycle as an important mobility and therapy tool. The tricycle, valued at approximately $3,300, was originally purchased through the generous support of friends and family.
While Berwyn Police continue to actively investigate this case, our detectives and staff knew this family needed help quickly. Commander John Hadjiannou contacted Rifton, the tricycle’s manufacturer, to share what had happened. In an incredible act of kindness, Rifton generously agreed to send a replacement adaptive tricycle for the child.
We are deeply grateful to Rifton for their compassion and generosity. The department is currently waiting for the tricycle to ship, and we look forward to presenting it to the child and his family when it arrives. We kindly ask the community to respect the family’s privacy at this time.
