BCOPS – Berwyn Community Oriented Police Strategy
The Berwyn Police Department is committed to working hand-in-hand with the residents and businesses of Berwyn to make the community a better place to live and work. Through our comprehensive community policing strategy, BCOPS (Berwyn Community Oriented Policing Strategy), the Berwyn Police Department recognizes the importance of a collaborative effort between law enforcement, residents, and other city agencies to maintain a safe community. Collectively, our community is focused on identifying various factors that can lead to crime and developing strategies to prevent it.
We are committed to educating the public on important crime prevention and safety matters through organized social media campaigns, print materials, and neighborhood meetings. Our officers are actively engaged with the youth of our community through partnerships fostered in our schools with School Resource Officers and through the police led youth group, Berwyn Police Explorer Post #94. We are fortunate to be one of the few police departments in the state that have a therapy dog. Officially sworn into his role on November 19, 2021, Pawfficer Romeo has quickly become the heartbeat of our department and an integral role in our community outreach efforts. Pawfficer Romeo routinely visits our schools, local hospitals, and can often be seen at community events. Romeo is specially trained to provide comfort to individuals in times of despair and has become an extraordinary resource for our officers when interacting with victims and other individuals in need.
